Eating for the Season: Foods for Fall

According to Chinese medicine, autumn is the seasonal time when the lungs are the most vulnerable to colds, mold allergies, asthma, and other lung disorders.  The following list of foods help support the lungs through the autumnal cold season.

In general, eat mildly aromatic foods, such as:

  • Oats
  • Millet
  • Corn
  • Rice
  • Carrots
  • Leeks
  • Radishes
  • Cauliflower
  • Beef

Flavors for fall:

  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Cinnamon
  • Chili
  • Ginger
  • Mustard

Drink spiced teas, and enjoy warming soups, such as Vietnamese Pho and Thai sour-spicy tom yum soup

In general, avoid overly fatty and raw/cold foods.  Limit dairy products.
