Prior to beginning a career in Oriental medicine Anya received a BS in Biology and a MS in Genetic Counseling. As a genetic counselor, Anya very much enjoyed combining the science of genetics with the human relationships of counseling, but she felt something was missing. Although Anya was helping people in her field, she felt a calling to be a healer.
Anya’s first Masters program was very stressful and she developed Temporomandibular joint disorder as a result of clenching her jaw. She discovered acupuncture when western medicine was unable to provide any relief. She eventually became an acupuncturist because acupuncture was so helpful for her health issues, and she wanted to pay it forward by bringing the medicine to others.
Anya works with her patients to facilitate healing in themselves. Because she is sensitive to needles herself, she has developed an extremely gentle style. Anya doesn’t believe that acupuncture needs to be painful in order to be effective. She enjoys working with conditions that are generally not helped by other forms of medicine. Anya loves watching her patients who had felt discouraged or frustrated before treatment find healing and relief. She is passionate about deep, restorative relaxation–both for her patients and for herself!
After completing her degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine at OCOM, Anya spent five weeks studying acupuncture in China. Following that, she volunteered with the acupuncture relief project in Nepal for two months where Anya got hands-on experience as a primary care provider and made lifelong friends.
Anya is also a homesteader living in a 7’x9′ cabin on 5 acres, and she loves spending free time doing construction making her tiny house a little bigger. Framing walls and hanging floor joists are particular favorites. She is a voracious reader, often devouring a book a day when she has time off. Weather permitting, there’s nowhere she’d rather be than floating the river by her house.
